  • This dress is dyed with Cochonilha Lilac. This natural colour grows on cactus leaves. During Mexican colonial era, Cochonilha became very popular because of its intensity and resistance to light. At some point it was more valuable than gold. Some painters such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh used it in their paintings.
